Malta's Neolithic Temples

A day seminar organised by Dr David Trump in collaboration with Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar

In keeping with its role to promote awareness of Malta's history and heritage sites, Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar is holding a one-day seminar on Malta's temple culture at the Phoenicia Hotel on Saturday May 4th, 2013 in collaboration with Dr David Trump.


Dr Trump is one of the foremost authorities on Maltese archaeology, as he was for many years the curator of the National Museum of Archaeology and responsible for the discovery and excavation of a number of important temple sites such as Skorba Temples in Mġarr (Malta). He continues to publish books on Maltese archaeology which are required reading for students and enthusiasts of Maltese prehistory.

The seminar will be illustrated by Daniel Cilia, the Florence-based photographer who has focussed much of his life's work to documenting Malta's heritage sites and especially its temples. Mr Cilia has been co-ordinating with Dr Trump to bring this seminar to Malta and is helping FAA in the organisation of this event on a voluntary basis.

To follow up the Neolithic Temples Seminar, FAA shall be organising a full-day bus tour to the most important temple sites of Malta with Dr Trump and Daniel Cilia on Sunday 5th 2013. Participants will be guided to Tarxien, Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples as well as to the Misqa Tanks, followed by lunch at Limestone Heritage, Siggiewi. The tour will conclude with a visit to the Archaeology Museum, Valletta.

The Neolithic Temples are a World Heritage Sites and among the major historic attractions that attract tourists to Malta. The seminar will appeal also to many Maltese but also draw cultural tourists who wish learn more of the temple culture.


In spite of the fact that Malta's prehistoric temples pre-date the Pyramids and play such a key role in defining Malta's history and cultural identity, they are largely ignored by the Maltese population.
